SINTESI
The contributions contained in the second volume of the Women’s Education in Southern Europe describe the contradictions and paradoxes that characterise the process of incorporating women into the education system in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Italy and Spain, underlining the similarities and differences between several cases and traditions. A variety of dimensions and areas are analysed, from the studies and professional practices of female primary-school teachers and the presence of girlsin secondary education — a field traditionally reserved for boys — to informal educational institutions. A particular focus is those women who, as very determined pioneers, fought to guarantee girls’ right to a formal education.
