SINTESI
When communication channels are not tailored to meet recipients’ needs, public services become fertile ground for language barriers across various professional, social and educational practices. As such barriers are subtly shaped primarily through inter–, intralinguistic and/or cultural aspects of discursive practices, they can further lead to serious issues of prejudice, social conflict and exclusion. This volume offers the reader a range of contexts in which language and cultural barriers arise, posing interdisciplinary challenges. Each of the eleven empirical studies in the collection makes an original contribution, disclosing ways in which different barriers can be built and broken down.
