ENGLISH TITLE: Wine and Art: Joseph Beuys’ Discussion in Defense of Nature at the Zaccagnini cellar in Bolognano, Abruzzi
ABSTRACT: This paper is a contribution on present aspects of the relationship between culture and territory, with a focus on contemporary art and viticulture. It examines a specific artistic event of primary importance, the Joseph Beuys’ Discussion in Defence of Nature held in 1984 in Bolognano, at the cellar of company Zaccagnini. The circumstances of the event conveyed in a small village in the Abruzzi the interests of the international contemporary art world, together with ones of a young winemaker at the beginning of his career and of local delegates interested in undertaking a process of development for the territory of Bolognano. An exceptional event for the times, it reveals a paradigmatic quality for both the historical and critical value of the work of Beuys, founder of the Green Party in Germany and inspired by the creator of biodynamic Steiner, for the consequences in the definition of the identity of places and their quality and in the evolution of the company under the dual aspect of wine production and the brand. The examination of the case resulted in an integration of critical tools belonging to the two areas of art and viticulture, allowing to identify the mutual influence of the aspects taken into consideration and a perspective of intervention that is advantageous for sustainable land development.
KEYWORDS: culture of wine; art and wine; site specific art; sustainable development; transdisciplinarity.
