Mathematical models for economics and applied sciences: decision aid tools. With a preface by Francesco Fimmanò. (Modelli matematici per le scienze economiche e applicate: strumenti di aiuto alla decisione.) (Italian).
In complex organizations, it is increasingly important to develop rigorous analytical criteria and appropriate mathematical tools, suitable for governing decision-making processes, at all levels of responsibility, and in order to achieve the best overall results, for the entire temporal scenario of the planned action. Similar attention is required in the choices of economic policy and project management for public investments, i.e., for complex economic-financial, corporate, engineering, environmental remediation projects, of urban regeneration and for problems concerning legal practitioners. The authors propose a path based on a structured systematic analysis of the variables that come into play in decision making, described on a scientific basis and emphasizing the most effective steps to be developed towards a satisfactory result (i.e., maximizing the flows of utility and minimizing the risk scenario); and how to better use operational tools and ways to optimize choices, in the case of multi-objective problems with random variables. Moreover, a fuzzy-logic approach is developed as a statistical based algorithm for the study of complex decision-making problems, from the perspective of the Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Cost-in-Cycle Analysis of Life, or Total Cost of Ownership. The volume is also a strategic support in the sector of procurement and public contracts, as it deals with the innovative methodological approach of mathematical tools towards the problems of evaluating the most economically advantageous offer.
