Giovanni Coralli, L’Autore di Giselle
In this volume, the dancer and choreographer Giovanni Coralli (1779–1854) is resurrected. Known to us as the creator of Giselle and La Péri, we now discover that during his long and active life (more than 40 years experience as dancer, teacher and choreographer), he created thirteen ballets and was involved in eighty-seven productions. This book is a mine of information gleaned from contracts, press reports, correspondence and contemporary depictions of principal dancers. It seeks not only to give Coralli his proper place in dance history, it also examines how he participated in the various transformations of dance in the first half of the nineteenth century. [...]
