As part of its programme to examine the issues considered the most relevant during the Italy’s presidency of the European Union, the Centre for International Studies on Economic Growth (CEIS) of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” — in collaboration with Italy's Ministry of Labour and the European Commission — organized an International Seminar of “Social Protection and Single European Market. Evolution of the Social Security Systems and Free Circulation: Problems and Perspectives”.
The Seminar was held at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” on March 15–16, 1996.
This volume contains the Seminar’s discussions on the difficulties the EU faces in reconciling the good working of the single market, and in particular the implementation of unhindered circulation, with the social security systems of the Member States.
