Cosmic rays are particles that hit the Earth with energies far higher than those man can get from any machines he builds. The phenomena due to these particles have been studied for long time by many scientist before understanding that they come from outer space. The italian physicist Domenico Pacini (1878–1934) is one of the most important scientist in this search, nonetheless he is very little known by scientific community as well as the general public. This book explores the path of Pacini’s research and reports the translation of the original articles he wrote. The aim is to highlight these important documents and putting Pacini in the right place in the history of science.
