Family Carers: Technology-Based Support Services

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) can enhance the delivery of care and support services for older people in need and their family carers. However, limited conceptual and theoreticalinstruments are available for analysing the interactions enabled by ICTs. This work aims to match communication sciences with current technology research in order to better understand how ICT–based services for family carers work, what types of interactions allow, and what final effects could be expected from them. Through the development and application of a semiotic–textological framework, a comprehensive classification is built and described, in order to improve knowledge and comparability.
