SINTESI
In the last decade, higher education in Europe has undertaken, with the so-called “Bologna Process”, a demanding journey towards the creation of a European Higher Education Area, well beyond the EU: this aim seems to respond both to the new Millennium’s challenges and to a tradition dating back nearly a thousand years. The actual impact of the “Process”, however, is strictly linked to the pre-existing social, political and institutional context of each country. A collection of writings by some of the most illustrious European scholars of comparative education, this volume aims to offer a deeper understanding of the dynamics effectively present within the European space, focussing on the interaction of the “Bologna model” defined at trans-national level, with structures, models, regulations and representations existing at the national level in seven European countries. Donatella Palomba is Professor of Education at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
