Information and Coding: Theory overview, Design, Applications and Exercises

The content of the book covers theoretical areas, design techniques and applications of Information and Coding through eight Chapters, each including various exercises and related solutions. Chapters 1 and 2 deal with information sources. In particular Chapter 1 covers discrete memoryless sources, while Chapter 2 covers discrete stationary sources. Chapter 3 deals with communications channels and related modelling. Chapter 4 faces channel coding, ranging from basic concepts to error control strategies and decoding techniques. Chapter 5 and 6 covers linear block codes and cyclic codes, respectively, while Chapter 7 is devoted to convolutional codes. Design techniques and applications are dealt within Chapter 8.

Ernestina Cianca graduated cum laude in Electronics engineering in 1997 at the University of L'Aquila. She got her Ph.D. degree from the University of Rome "Tor Vergata" (URTV). She is currently assistant professor in Telecommunications at the URTV (Dpt. of Electronics engineering), teaching DSP, Information and coding theory.

Mauro De Sanctis is assistant professor at the Department of Electronics engineering, University of Roma "Tor Vergata" (Italy). He received the "Laurea" degree in Telecommunications engineering in 2002 and the Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications and microelectronics engineering in 2006 from the same University.

Marina Ruggieri graduated in Electronics engineering in 1984 at the University of Roma. She was: research and teaching assistant at the University of Roma "Tor Vergata" (RTV) (1986-1991); associate professor in Telecommunications at University of L'Aquila (1991-1994) and at the University of RTV (1994-2000). Since November 2000 she is full professor in Telecommunications at the RTV (Faculty of Engineering), teaching DSP, Information and coding.
