Mosques are significantly second to Moslems while graves and cemeteries are highly controversial and their significance differs from one sect to another. Kaaba in Mecca, Mosque of the Prophet in AL- Madina, the Dome of the Rock and AL-Ibrahimy Mosque in Jerusalem are considered the most significant holy places. The architecture of cemeteries in the Islamic world has reached artistic peaks and had been most probably considered the greatest of what the Moslems had creatively made. Its architecture was varied as the Islamic Architecture was in its different eras. It was a Fatimid’s style at the Fatimid’s era; Ayyubid’s at the Ayyubid’s era and carried all the elements of the Ottoman Architecture when it was built under their reign. Of paramount importance is the architecture of Shiites' Shrines in Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon which was characterized by its Iranian Islamic architectural pattern since the Shiites in Iran were of religious and economic references and had taken interest and care in restoring the Shiites’ holy places. This is remarkably noticed in the architecture of Sayida Zainab’s Shrine in Damascus and the shrines of the Imams in Iraq when compared with any religious monument in Asfhan or Mashhad.
