I «Quaderni di Linguistica e Linguaggi specialistici» sono il principale contenitore delle ricerche sviluppate, intorno alle maggiori lingue veicolari dell’Unione, dalla giovane équipe di linguisti della Facoltà di Scienze Politiche dell’Università di Teramo. Ora strumento primamente pedagogico, attraverso la serie “Workbooks”, ora più specificamente approfondimento teorico, attraverso la serie “Indagini”, l(ea)ng(u)a(tgj)es intende essere un’interfaccia tra la ricerca e la didattica attraverso contributi mirati in funzione e alla luce dell’esperienza “sul campo”, nell’ottica di un dialogo e di una circolazione permanenti con le varie cattedre dell’Ateneo e con gli studenti.
This volume discusses some of the problems encountered by literary translators from Italian into English and English into Italian in dealing with culture–specific elements. Part One “Crossing the Language Frontier” offers an overview of the main approaches in Translation Studies and their relevance to a discussion of culture in translation. Part Two “Crossing the Cultural Border” provides examples of culture–specific elements from literature in English and Italian and suggests possible strategies in dealing with them. The author describes some of the challenges and constraints faced by literary translators, focusing on the relationship between their creative freedom and the many constraints to which translation as process and product is necessarily subject.
