History is often believed to have been shaped by conspiracies. Through the semiotic analysis of the videogame Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the essay seeks to shed new light upon the link between conspiracy narratives and historical representation. The focus lies on three points: historical ontologies involved by conspiracy theories and history as a discipline; similarities and differences in the cognitive processes of historical and conspiratorial understanding; relations between social groups and the development of historical representations subject to conspiratory logic.
