For a long time, science has regarded conspiracy theories were regarded as a dubious topic. The few studies that have dealt with this theme have defined conspiracy as a social problem that must be repressed. The essay proposes an alternative approach, based on the premises of Sociology of knowledge of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. Conspiracy theories are described as a specific form of knowledge that holds both negative and positive potential. According to this perspective, the truth of a conspiracy theory is mainly based on processes of social construction of reality.
