This paper offers an overview of the period of Tajik literary history that followed the death of Stalin (1953). In particular, I pay attention to fiction. I tentatively outline the development of the genre of the historical novel and the birth of the psychological fiction from the mid-1950s to the 1970s. I argue that when tracing the main stages of the evolution of post-stalinist Tajik fiction one should mainly consider the works by Ğalol Ikromī and Fazliddin Muhammadiev.
