According to Bataille, the Hegelian System – as he received it from the interpretation given by A. Kojève – aims at representing the Whole (that is: the Truth), but it fails, because it can't express the extremes of experience, such as mystical or erotic elements: it is not the synthesis of all possibilities. The position of a Principle (Grund) itself, from which this System is starting, consequently leads to a discussion on the role of Possibility (and Tragic) into the Hegelian System.
