The paper wants to show that a way of reading the current condition of the relationships between users of computer supports and the ability of the latter to maintain a critical sense towards the web, can be given by Ernst Cassirer's research on the lack of "symbolic performance" in some psychiatric pathologies. Perhaps Cassirer's reflection helps us to see more clearly the question of the impact of digital technology on the context of the reflection of the Humanities.
