Gaetano Rasi (1927-2016) was an economist close to the Italian Social Movement, perhaps the most ardent supporter of the principles of the “third way” between liberalism and communism throughout the post-war period. He directed the Institute of Corporatist Studies from 1972 to 1993, promoting debates and developing legislative proposals aimed at organically integrating producers into political processes, against the atomism and formalism of liberal democracy. He remained active until his last days, even after the failure of an (that derived from the msi), which had not been able to politically exploit its experience in the government of the country. Rediscovering his historical writings on fascism and economy (he directed the “Annals of the Italian economy”) means retracing a piece of Italian history where past, present and future intertwine.
