The article reviews the latest steps of the longstanding Cyprus issue until the most recent collapse of un-facilitated efforts and negotiations between the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides and including the reiterated proposal of the Turkish Cypriot side to either cooperate on exploration, exploitation and distribution of natural resources in the Eastern Mediterranean or to suspend all activity until a final political settlement of the Cypriot issue is reached. The article suggests that hydrocarbons issue should be deemed as a beacon of future cooperation for both sides instead of being a situation for escalating tensions in the area.
