What allows a city to be more or less creative than others? Is there some urban mechanism that predisposes a city to the emergency of new signs? What spatial and temporal aspects are able to create them? The essay focuses on the three complex semiotic phenomena that permeate creativity in present–day cities, that is: space/time compression, accumulation of signs, and semiotic pervasiveness.
