SINTESI
The book is designed to be used in language, literature and culture courses for students in the upper-intermediate or advanced level. University students of English language and cultures have to read complex fictional and theoretical works. This clearly calls for work in the classroom, where students can practise understanding and discussing different types of texts. There is also a need to acquire competence in critical writing and to learn how to apply contemporary methodologies and concepts. As a practical course in cultural analysis, the present book offers guided exercises in analysing film and literary texts, namely Alien by Ridley Scott and Beloved by Toni Morrison. The final chapter deals with essay writing, and includes a detailed guide for the production of a video essay.
