Architecture of the twentieth century artistic heritage to merida,Yuctan
20th century in Yucatan, Mexico, and especially in the city of Merida, capital of the State, resulted inan important building production, with the emergence of several types including the Porfiriana, which corresponds to the administration of General Porfirio Díaz Mori in the last decades of the 19thcentury and early 20th century; the Nationalist, corresponding to the ideals espoused by the MexicanRevolution, and that covers up to the 1940s, and the Modern Movement, although it arrives to Mexicoin the 1920s, in Yucatan developed between 1940 and 1960.Although this architecture is part of the artistic heritage of Mexico, laid down in article 33 of the “LeyFederal Sobre Monumentos y Zonas Arqueológicos, Artísticos e Históricos”, except numberedbuildings belonging to the Porfirian than architecture for its outstanding urban architectural valuehave been protected by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), actually did notreceive the adequate protection that allows their permanence, so it is continuously observed the lackof appreciation, coupled with various political and economic interests by both the authorities and thepublic in general, which encourages the abandonment, degradation and even destruction ofimportant examples of these types, which are part of our roots and identity. This is due, on the one hand, the majority of persons not considered to be buildings belonging to thesecategories to present architectural heritage value, considering that only the Prehispanic and thecolonial architecture, for its antiquity, they are national heritage; and on the other hand, various gapsin legislation protecting the architecture artistic heritage, that although there are different decrees, laws and regulations, there are still many shortcomings that have benefited interests primarilyeconomic, to the detriment of the urban architectural quality of the city.
