Earthen architecture in Cuba is represented since the 16thcentury. We have examples of highanthropological value, such as the village of San Pedro de Palmarejo located in the Valle de los Ingenios,(Valley of the Sugar Mills), Trinidad, both of which, the valley and the city, have been declared aWorld Heritage Site. This paper addresses 1) the general characteristics of Cuban vernacular buildingsand 2) the difficulties faced in their preservation and revitalization within the context of the demandsof contemporary life.
