Public markets are historically home spaces for cities, where networks of multiple activities are woven. The paper aims at a comparative study of the transformation of markets in the cities (Belém, Barcelona, Lisbon, and London), taking into account proposals and actions for physical and functional renewal, the new consumption requirements and the way in which public and private institutions are articulated in the management of these spaces.
