This essay articulates and develops some definitions of neoliberalism within a historical approach, and it proposes to distinguish three main phases of it. In particular, they will be highlighted those essential dynamics which are especially affecting the structural edge of social work’s theory and praxes, whose activities and actors are being subjected to extensive and intensive processes of marketization, commodification and exploitation. It makes social work a strategic field in order to reflect on, face and challenge epochal transformation that global society isexperiencing.
