The first part of this revised, updated and amended edition accurately describes both the neutral and mediatic accents of American and British English, including the International accent (as a useful communicative and teaching tool), which is an intermediate and simpler type of pronunciation, often used by many singers and actors. It includes intonation and transcriptions, with many necessary and clear illustrations, for vowels, consonants, and prosodic elements: mostly vocograms, orograms, labiograms, palatograms, tonograms, laryngograms, and many examples. The second part describes more than 200 accents: 121 native (up to 146 with variants), 63 bilingual, and 30 foreign accents.
