What is considerable as a regionalised voice in the context of audiovisual translation? Can it be said that the voice of a region mirrors the political and cultural background of a recognizable social group in an identifiable socio–geographical setting? Answers to these questions, touching sociolinguistics as well as cultural studies, overlap in the chapters that this multilingual book offers to the reader. The authors who contributed to this volume investigate processes, perceptions, and policies behind a series of intellectual and real challenges that affect all translators but are of a crucial importance in rendering audiovisual materials. By their own nature, audiovisuals produced for TV broadcast, internet streaming, films, and all other formats impose constraints that the regional identities be immediately recognizable with most economic and economical translation. The notion of immediate access to the target audience, who will otherwise desert the ‘audiovisual products’, becomes a central concern, as the contributions here included show by drawing upon a range of methodologies and approaches, from case–studies, surveys, to language planning and translation, and policy making to support translational activity.Contributions of Rachele Antonini, Michela Baldo, Delia Chiaro, Margherita Dore, Federico M.
