This book is a collection of lessons for first level degree students in the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Cagliari. The course covers various aspects of British history, language and institutions presented through short texts followed by a series of tasks designed to develop students’ reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. The graded texts are intended for B1/B2 level students and highlight various key grammar structures and focus on specific vocabulary commonly used in discussing the themes presented. The specific lexis that students encounter in this book will serve as a basis for extending their knowledge of specialised discourse in the second level degree courses offered by the faculty. Michela Giordano is a researcher and lecturer of English Language and Translation at the Faculty of Political Science in Cagliari. Her research interests are Language Teaching and Methodology, Sociolinguistics, Psycholinguistics, Gender and English for Specific Purposes.Simon F. Lander is a teacher and translator who has worked in Italy for many years. He is a language assistant and contract lecturer in the Faculty of Political Science, Cagliari. His special interests include developing speaking skills and task–based learning.Cheryl M. Wolley has worked in Cagliari for many years. She is a language assistant and contract lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, Cagliari. Her research interests include Language Teaching and Methodology, Testing, Sociolinguistics and English for Specific Purposes.
